The latest issue of the John Clare Society Journal is published on 13 July 2020. It contains full length critical essays by Robert Heyes, Markus Poetzsch, C. M. Jackson-Houlston and Zachary Suetta, a new poem by Jonathan Tulloch, an Index of Significant Publications on Clare across the last year edited by Andrew Hodgson and Erin Lafford, and book reviews as usual.
It is 200 years since Clare’s first book, and to mark it we include ten ‘Anniversary Shorts: Studies of Poems from Poems Descriptive of Rural Life and Scenery’ – brief essays on particular poems by John Goodridge, Bridget Keegan, Simon Kövesi, Erin Lafford, Scott McEathron, James C. McKusick, Emma Mason, Valerie Pedlar, Fiona Stafford, and Sarah Zimmerman. By way of offering a gesture against the myriad losses of 2020 – not least all our planned events celebrating Clare – these authors have recorded their mini-essays (and readings of the chosen poems) – to bring you a movie version of this part of 2020’s JCSJ, on YouTube, here:
