Welcome to BARS

The British Association for Romantic Studies (BARS) was set up in 1989 by academics to promote the study of the cultural history of the Romantic period. Since then, BARS has organised eight International conferences at various locations in the UK, has published the BARS Bulletin and Review twice-yearly, and currently has more than 350 members.

Midlands Romantic Seminar

The Midlands Romantic Seminar is a regional research grouping affiliated with BARS. It brings together academics, postgraduates and independent scholars working on all aspects of Romantic period writing.
      We hold regular seminars and day conferences at venues in the Midlands and the surrounding area. Our events provide postgraduates and more experienced academics with an opportunity to present work in progress in a scholarly - but informal - environment.
