BARS Postgraduates - Day Conference - Silence and Romaticism 29th June 1999
A one-day postgraduate BARS conference at the University of Durham
This year's conference will focus on the topic of silence in literature related to the Romantic period.
Possible topics include:
texts about mutism
artificial vs natural language debates
statuary and literature
the sublime
psychoanalysis and sublimation
moments of silence pregnant pause: stillness, feminism and creativity
the still, small voice in literature
silence and nature
repressed voices and the canon
Papers on these and related topics should be 20 minutes in length. Please send abstracts of up to 300 words not later than the 1st February by post or e.mail. Papers from the conference will be considered for publication.
