{"id":1385,"date":"2016-09-26T19:18:59","date_gmt":"2016-09-26T19:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bars.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=1385"},"modified":"2016-09-26T19:18:59","modified_gmt":"2016-09-26T19:18:59","slug":"cfp-sanditon-200-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bars.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=1385","title":{"rendered":"CfP: <i>Sanditon<\/i>: 200 Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Please see below for a Call for Papers from Anne Toner for a conference to celebrate the bicentenary of Jane Austen&#8217;s <em>Sanditon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u2018Sanditon: 200 Years\u2019 is a conference that will take place at Trinity College, Cambridge from March 29-31, 2017. The conference will mark the bicentenary of the composition of Jane Austen\u2019s unfinished novel, <em>Sanditon<\/em>, in a year that also marks the bicentenary of Austen\u2019s death. Austen began to write <em>Sanditon <\/em>in January of 1817. The manuscript closes with the date of March 18. Austen died four months later.<\/p>\n<p>The manuscript of <em>Sanditon <\/em>is held at King\u2019s College, Cambridge and will be available for participants in the conference to view, along with items from the Dorothy Warren and David Gilson Jane Austen collections, also held at at King\u2019s. To coincide with the conference, Austen exhibitions will take place at the University Library, Cambridge and the English Faculty, Cambridge University.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals for twenty-minute papers on any topic relating to <em>Sanditon <\/em>are invited. The conference warmly encourages a diverse range of approaches to the work, including papers that are thematic, stylistic, biographical, socio-historical, or in any way more broadly contextual or comparative in their focus. The manuscript of <em>Sanditon <\/em>will be a subject of particular interest and we welcome papers that address subjects relating to Austen\u2019s composition practices; revisions; the material text; manuscript culture; the fragment; posthumous publication. Papers addressing the reception and later textual history of <em>Sanditon<\/em>\u2014its editions, completions, and adaptations \u2014are also very welcome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Confirmed speakers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Linda Bree (Cambridge University Press)<\/li>\n<li>Emma Clery (University of Southampton)<\/li>\n<li>Claudia L.
