Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences &amp;<\/em> <em>The Maxim Gorky Institute of Literature and Creative Writing<\/em>.<br><em>Moscow, Russia<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of this conference is \u201cPoet &amp; Reader\u201d, where Byron himself might be perceived as an acute<br>and genuine reader of texts composed in different modes and languages. There are also readers of Byron,<br>who were inspired by the poet\u2019s brisk and alluring verse style and his commitment to liberty and freedom.<br>Famous writers, revolutionaries, philosophers, historians, artists, composers, travelers, and inventors<br>belong to the international community known as Byron\u2019s readership. Some of them claimed that they had<br>learned English in order to read Byron in the original. Special attention will be given to the Russian<br>reception of Byron and his works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The conference organisers welcome 20-minute papers on topics including, but not necessarily limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Byron as an avid reader<\/li><li>Poets as readers and readers as poets (i.e. Byron, Goethe, Pushkin, Mickiewicz,<br>Lermontov, Merezhkovsky, Rimbaud)<\/li><li>Byron and various scholarly theorists (i.e. Bakhtin, Foucault, Umberto Eco)<\/li><li>Reading Byron as an Orientalist<\/li><li>Byron for Western and Eastern readers<\/li><li>Byron and scientific literature<\/li><li>Byron, libraries and archives<\/li><li>Byron reading women and women reading Byron<\/li><li>Byron&#8217;s take on history and on historical figures<\/li><li>Philosophers, artists and composers as Byron\u2019s readers and interpreters<\/li><li>Reading Byron within specific political and cultural contexts<\/li><li>Reading Byron as a soul-lifting experience<\/li><li>Readers idealizing and demonizing Byron<\/li><li>Byron for young readers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submission of Proposals<\/strong><br>Please send 250-word proposals by February 14, 2022 to ishishkova@yandex.ru (Professor Irina Shishkova) elenahaltrin@yandex.ru (Dr. Elena Haltrin-Khalturina).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Confirmation of acceptance by March 01, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Organization Committee<\/strong><br>Elena V.
