{"id":3974,"date":"2021-10-30T16:29:34","date_gmt":"2021-10-30T16:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bars.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=3974"},"modified":"2021-10-30T16:29:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T16:29:34","slug":"coleridge-conference-2022-25-29-july-at-kilve-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bars.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=3974","title":{"rendered":"Coleridge Conference 2022.   25-29 July at Kilve Court."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The Coleridge Conference is back \u2013 in time for the 250<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;anniversary of STC\u2019s birth year, and in Somerset, where, in that annus mirabilis 1797-98, he was living alongside William and Dorothy Wordsworth, writing \u2018The Ancient Mariner\u2019 and \u2018Frost at Midnight\u2019, and welcoming as visitors John Thelwall, William Hazlitt, Charles Lamb and Thomas Wedgwood. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our venue, Kilve Court, is the Georgian country house with \u2018broad and gilded vane\u2019 that is mentioned in \u2018Anecdote for Fathers\u2019. Its wooded grounds are ideal for strolling between&nbsp;papers or after the conference dinner and bar.&nbsp; They nestle under the Quantock hills and near the \u2018smooth shore, by the green sea\u2019. Holford Combe and Alfoxden House are nearby, and we shall walk there in Coleridge\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual, we aim for intense but informal discussion \u2013 genial criticism indeed \u2013 whether in the lecture hall, the dining room, on the green lawns or in the The Hood Arms, the seventeenth-century inn just across the road.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Proposals are welcomed for 20 minute papers (the majority of which will be plenary) on all aspects of Coleridge and\/or his circle, then and since.&nbsp;&nbsp;Some will be published in the 250<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;anniversary number of&nbsp;<em>The Coleridge Bulletin.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Cost will be in the region of \u00a3390\/$540.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There will be some part-cost bursaries for grad students and the unwaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Send your paper proposal to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:fulfat62@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fulfat62@gmail.com<\/a>&nbsp;AND TO&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:joanna.taylor@manchester.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joanna.taylor@manchester.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BY 1 JAN 2022<\/strong>.
