We welcome papers from scholars across the humanities on the topic of nineteenth-century \u2018military\u2019 manliness. Brown Military Collection,<br \/>\nBrown University Library)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Topics might include (but are certainly not limited to):<br \/>\n\u2022 The Napoleonic Wars.<br \/>\n\u2022 Victorian war and empire.<br \/>\n\u2022 Hero worship.<br \/>\n\u2022 Military fashion.<br \/>\n\u2022 Returning soldiers.<br \/>\n\u2022 Soldiers and families (military fathers, husbands and sons).<br \/>\n\u2022 Military hierarchies.<br \/>\n\u2022 Men and nursing.<br \/>\n\u2022 The revival of chivalry and past manly archetypes.<br \/>\n\u2022 Military masculinity in art and music.<br \/>\n\u2022 Artistic masculinity during wartime.<br \/>\n\u2022 Violent, criminal masculinity.<br \/>\n\u2022 Emotion, trauma and the nervous body.<br \/>\n\u2022 Physicality and sport.<br \/>\n\u2022 Homosociality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\nPlease send an abstract of 250-300 words for a paper of 20 minutes to either Anna Maria Barry or Emma Butcher[<a href=\"mailto:anna_maria_barry@hotmail.com\" target=\"_blank\">anna_maria_barry@hotmail.com<\/a>\/<a href=\"mailto:erbutcher@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\">erbutcher@gmail.com<\/a>] by 5 January 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\nWe anticipate that the registration fee will be \u00a335, with a discounted price of \u00a320 for postgraduate students.
