The returning officers, Matthew Sangster and Mary Fairclough, have checked and validated the ballots and are now pleased to announce the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We received 47 ballots, 44 of which were determined to be valid.\u00a0 One ballot was submitted by someone who is not a current member of BARS; this was ineligible.  One member submitted their ballot twice: the later submission was included and the earlier discounted.\u00a0 One ballot was received after the deadline; this was discounted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The votes for the various officer positions were as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Vice President<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Jennie Orr \u2013 43<\/strong><\/li><li>Abstain \u2013 1<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jennie Orr<\/strong> is re-elected as Vice President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Secretary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Andrew McInnes \u2013 42<\/strong><\/li><li>Reopen Nominations \u2013 2<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Andrew McInnes<\/strong> is re-elected as Secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Membership Secretary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Yimon Lo \u2013 44<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yimon Lo<\/strong> is re-elected as Membership Secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Communications Officer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Amy Wilcockson \u2013 43<\/strong><\/li><li>Abstain \u2013 1<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amy Wilcockson<\/strong> is re-elected as Communications Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Bursaries Officer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Gerard McKeever \u2013 42<\/strong><\/li><li>Reopen Nominations \u2013 2<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gerard McKeever<\/strong> is re-elected as Bursaries Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>International Officer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This was the first election contested by more than two candidates since BARS moved to the current elections system.  As a consequence, the Exec consulted on the most appropriate method and determined to use a transferrable vote system in which first preference votes are tallied initially, and then the candidate with the least votes is eliminated, with their votes transferring to voters&#8217; next preferences until a clear winner emerges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>First Round<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Serena Qihui Pei \u2013 13<\/li><li>Silvia Riccardi \u2013 4<\/li><li>Millie Schurch \u2013 10<\/li><li>Patrick Vincent \u2013 16<\/li><li>Abstain \u2013 1<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Second Round<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Serena Qihui Pei \u2013 13<\/li><li>Millie Schurch \u2013 13<\/li><li><strong>Patrick Vincent \u2013 17<\/strong><\/li><li>Abstain \u2013 1<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, two candidates drew for second place in the second round, resolving the election in favour of the candidate in first place at that point.  Consequently, <strong>Patrick Vincent<\/strong> is elected as International Officer.  This was a very close election, and we&#8217;d like to thank all the candidates for standing.  It&#8217;s clear that all four impressed the membership with their statements, and we hope that those not elected on this occasion will consider standing again for Executive roles in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful candidates in these elections will serve two-year terms.
