This special issue of&nbsp;<em>Studia Neophilologica<\/em>, coinciding also with the centenary of a journal that has been the home of many significant essays on Beddoes\u2019s writings, will offer new readings and accounts of Beddoes\u2019s life, work, and reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contributions are invited for essays between 5 and 8,000 words on all aspects of Beddoes\u2019s career. Topics might include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Death\u2019s Jest-Book&nbsp;<\/em>as a verse drama<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s relationships with his Romantic precursors and contemporaries<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and Victorian and\/or Modern poetry<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s sense of humour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s political vision<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s engagement with German life and culture<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and the gothic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s and Romantic, Jacobean, and\/or Elizabethan drama<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and tragedy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and Switzerland &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s letters and other prose<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and medicine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s critical and editorial history<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and evil<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes\u2019s revisions&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beddoes and love<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Please send abstracts of 250\u2013300 words to Andrew Hodgson at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:a.hodgson@bham.ac.uk\">a.hodgson@bham.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;by Friday 2 October 2026.
