We invite proposals for papers and panels treating the conference theme in relation to French and Francophone cultures, history, literatures, music, art history and sciences in the long nineteenth century. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

- Fuel, coal, steam / Le combustible, le charbon, la vapeur
- The industrial sublime / Le sublime industriel
- Crafted objects/ Les objets artisanaux

In addition to papers and panels linked to the conference theme, we invite submissions for panels or roundtables on the challenges and/or opportunities encountered in research OR teaching OR public-facing work in the area of French/ francophone nineteenth-century studies. Work-in-progress or ten-minute papers are warmly welcomed for these panels.
200-word proposals in English or French (for both 20-minute individual papers and for entire panels) should be submitted by 1st December 2026 at: https://uksdn.co.uk/submit-an-abstract/
Please indicate your academic situation (doctoral student, independent researcher, lecturer…) on your proposal. If you are a doctoral student, please give the name and email address of your thesis supervisor.
