Welcome to BARS

The British Association for Romantic Studies (BARS) was set up in 1989 by academics to promote the study of the cultural history of the Romantic period. Since then, BARS has organised several international conferences at various locations in the UK, has published the BARS Bulletin and Review twice-yearly, and currently has more than 400 members.

How To Join

Membership is from 1st January to 31st December (Subscriptions are due 1st January, regardless of the month of joining BARS). The annual subscription for BARS membership costs £25 (waged) and £10 (unwaged and/or postgraduate), unless you choose to pay using PayPal, in which case the fee is included in the cost of membership, £16 (waged) and £6 (unwaged/ postgrad).

Members will receive the BARS Bulletin and Review twice a year and be joined to the BARS Electronic Mailbase. Current members renewing their subscriptions can use the payment methods listed     below.

New members who pay using PayPal will receive an email from Louise Booth once your subscription fee has been recieved. If you are a new member who would like to pay using either cheque, standing order or Bankers order please contact:
