How to Join

BARS memberships run from 1st January to 31st December each year.  Subscriptions are due on January 1st, regardless of the month of joining BARS.  The annual subscription costs £25 (waged) or £10 (unwaged and/or postgraduate).  Joint BARS-North American Society for the Study of Romanticism (NASSR) memberships are also available (see below).

Members will be subscribed to the BARS Electronic Mailbase, will be eligible for BARS funding in the form of grants and bursaries and can attend BARS International Conferences, Early Career and Postgraduate Conferences and other events that the association organises.  BARS dues support the open-access publication of The BARS Review and BARS’ continuing work connecting Romanticists in Britain, Europe, the United States, Australasia and the wider world.

New members may pay using the PayPal links below; you will receive an email from the BARS Membership Secretary, Dr Yimon Lo, once your subscription fee has been received. If you are a new member who would like to pay using a cheque, standing order, banker’s order or an online bank transfer, please contact the Membership Secretary by email: bars.memberships@gmail.com.

Current members renewing their subscriptions can use any of the payment methods listed below.

Payment Options

PayPal/Credit Card

You can subscribe or renew your subscription using PayPal.  You can either make payments separately each year using single payments, or you can set up a recurring annual subscription that will debit your card or account every year on the date that you set it up. To set up a recurring subscription using these links, a PayPal account is required, but a one-off payment can be made using the ‘Pay with Credit or Debit Card’ option after clicking through.  To set up a recurring payment without a PayPal account, see the section ‘Standing Orders, Banker’s Orders and Online Payments’ below.

The BARS subscription year begins on January 1st, so if possible, we prefer recurring subscriptions to be set up around this date.  If you’d like to subscribe to BARS later in a year, we ask that you use one of the single payment options below and then set up a recurring payment for the next year at a time between December 1st and January 31st.
